Transition to Secondary School

At Blackrod Church School, we understand that moving to secondary school is exciting, but sometimes challenging.  We believe that students’ wellbeing and learning must be maintained as they embark on the transition process. As such, we have a range of strategies in place to best support your child through these stages.

We intend to:

Provide a smooth transition for all pupils moving to secondary school.
Provide opportunities, support and information for parents/carers, pupils and practitioners during this crucial time.
Provide a positive experience which will not hinder pupils’ wellbeing, learning or development, and ensure they are enthusiastic to learn in their new setting.
Actively involve pupils and parents/carers in the transition process.
Sharing information between settings, in terms of pupils’ development and curriculum records etc., which will enhance the effectiveness of the transition process.
Ensure our Year 6 teachers, SEN & Pastoral Leads have regular contact with secondary schools.
Children will create a portfolio of work to show their new teachers as they move to Secondary School.
Specially designed check list created by Y6 teachers and Y7 teachers that includes ‘non-negotiables’ in Maths and English. This ensures the children start Year 7 with confidence and readiness.
