As a Voluntary Controlled Primary school, admission into our school, either into the Reception class in September or into any class during the school year is managed by Bolton Local Authority.

I think we are all very well aware of the importance of good attendance in school. The best attenders at school achieve the best results. There are very few exceptional circumstances in which we are allowed to authorise planned absences during term time. Information about term time absences has to be passed on to the Local Authority and consideration of further action is taken from there. Please contact us in the school office for more information, if you need it.
The School Day at Blackrod Church School;
The school day begins officially 08.55, but our doors are open from 08.45 for children to come in, get settled and start the day with a mini challenge or thinking puzzle. Being on time and ready to learn is essential for children To feel settled and to give the best responses. We keep a note of punctuality as well as attendance, and we will work with you to be sure our children are making the most of their learning opportunities.
Pupils in Key Stages 1 and 2 have a mid-morning break for 15 minutes, pupils in Reception and Nursery have access to outdoor play and learning throughout the day. Lunch begins from 12.00 for pupils in KS1 and 12.15 for pupils in KS2. During the afternoon, pupils in Key Stage 1 have mid-point break and, pupils in Key Stage 2 take a five minute ‘pit-stop’ whenever it fits in. The school day ends at 3.20pm for pupils in Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
As a Church school, worship times are very important. Each week begins with a special ‘thought for the week’ assembly for all children and staff and each day, there is a time set aside for worship or reflection in large or small groups.
Unfortunately, there is very limited parking on the school site, and this has to be reserved for staff. Parents are asked not to use the car-park between 08.30 and 09.15 and between 15.00 and 15.45. We have two disabled bays designated for pupils with mobility difficulties.
We try really hard to keep all costs and requests for donations at a manageable and reasonable level. We offer the opportunity to make contributions for trips over time and try to let you know well in advance when we might be asking for donations to help out. Pupils will never be excluded from school trips or visits if we do not receive individual voluntary contributions. We strive to find the most exciting, inspirational and memorable out of classroom learning experiences at the very best value for money. Pupil Premium children are able to access chargable activities free of charge. An appointment with the School Business Manager is necessary to agree this. For more information, please see our ‘Charges’ policy on the ‘KEY INFORMATION – Policies and Documents’ page.
Our school uniform is generally grey trousers or skirt, white shirt or t-shirt and sensible black shoes, not trainers. These items can be sourced locally at Tesco, Asda and other outlets. We have worked hard to find a supplier for our unique items the gives you best value for money in terms of quality, cost and availability. Our school logo jumpers, cardigans, fleeces, book bags and PE kits can be purchased via the uniform link on this website. For health and safety reasons, children should not wear any form of cosmetic jewellery to school.
